47 TriMode Amplifier Details
This was an interesting undertaking. The amplifier was
designed to incorporate two functions that were not likely to be found
on any platform such as this. The first is selectable operation, i.e.
Triode,Ultralinear and Pentode. The second is feedback selection. The
end user can adjust various levels of feedback or simply NONE at all.
The reason for this was to improve on the overall "damping factor." You
literally have a multitude of options for your listening experience.
This became a unique SE design that gave choices where most other's
simply did not. The iron chosen for the 47 was made by Tribute
Transformers from Holland. The owner and designer (Pieter Treuniet)
managed to deliver the transformers to me in about half the time it
typically takes these days (usually 6 months or more). The transformers
use amorphous cores, and they are "potted" in very robust cans. Moving
on to the decor end of things, Louis Chochos from Omega Speakers
created a base for me from solid American Walnut. The top and bottom
plates are powdercoated in "marine silver." The volume knob and
switches on the deck were also powdercoated in a copper finish.
Finally, the tube compliment consists of two Western Electric 310a
Pentodes, two Radiotron 247 globe Pentodes and one 5Z3 rectifier.
I want to thank Louis for his assistance with the woodwork!
